Is Najib Razak the right man to take over from Pak Lah? I certainly don't think so
I can’t really understand why UMNO leaders are calling Pak Lah to resign from the prime minister position. Some leaders want Najib to be given the power as soon as possible. They want Pak Lah to take the sole responsibility for the defeat in the last general election. Najib is seen more charismatic capable and more caliber.

controlled everyone and everything during his tenure as the prime minister from A to Z. It is fair to say that Pak Lah has less charisma, everyone knows that. He’s no Tun Mahathir. Dictator MahathirPak Lah is more relax and totally the opposite of Tun Mahathir. He empowered his ministers and because of that, he made himself look less powerful. The benchmark was too different.

Since Pak Lah is seen weak, it was easy for others to blame him for the general election “defeat”. He was made the ugly scapegoat. Due to pressure within his own party, he had no choice but to announce that he’ll pass the baton to Najib by 2010. His excuse, he needs time to implement and finish up his projects before he resign.

Dato Seri Najib Tun Razak

But will “charismatic” Najib Tun Razak help UMNO to regain the support UMNO once had? Permatang Pauh was the first by-election after the 2008 general election and Najib was given the responsibility to steal the seat from PKR. Even with the help of all sort of government machineries, Najib failed miserably. Not only PKR retained the seat, they won it with increased majority.

It is clear the the problem was not Pak Lah. The problem was not Najib as well. The problem lies with UMNO and BN. It is fair to say that the majority of rakyat have no faith in the party anymore. Majorities of malays are not supporting UMNO, majority of Chinese are not supporting MCA and Gerakan, and the majority of Indians are not with MIC. The BN ship is sinking!

But it is not too late for them to salvage the ship. BN needs to start repairing damages and has to take a different direction. Start by dropping the ridiculous sodomy charges. Not even Saiful’s sumpah laknat can change the rakyat’s stand now. Due to UMNO extremism in playing the case, now Anwar is seen not guilty from the eyes of the rakyat. Start playing clean politics.

BN need to be more sensitive to the rakyat’s plights and sufferings. We can understand if the government needs to implement minor increment to the patrol price due to global oil shortage or pressure. But we can’t understand if the people around Pak Lah and najib becoming billionaires at a very young age at times like this.

Please think about it...

The new opposition leader: Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim
On a lighter note...

Anwar Ibrahim is today officially parliamentary opposition leader. The newly-elected Permatang Pauh MP was sworn in this morning at the Dewan Rakyat.

I bet a lot of things came into his head during the sworn in this morning. Probably one of it was...

Online portal Malaysia Today blocked!
Are we becoming like China?

Is the government trying to destroy every Mahathir's legacy? It seems like it..

Under the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) Malaysia 10 Point Bill of Guarantees, the government promises to ensure no internet censorship. That was one of the main attraction offered by MSC to multi-national companies so that they'll be interested to joining and investing in MSC.

But Malaysia has moved backwords yesterday when Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has ordered all internet service providers (ISPs) to block controversial online portal Malaysia Today.

The domain name - http://www.malaysia-today.net - has been unaccessible to TMnet subscribers since yesterday evening as a result of the blockage - known technically as 'DNS blackhole list'.

According to Malaysiakini, local internet users can still access the website by typing http://202.75.62.114/2008/ or http://mt.harapanmalaysia.com/2008/ in their web browsers.

Lanslide victory!
My dad told me today that if Anwar Ibrahim doesn't win by a majority of more than 10,000 votes, the press will slaughter him tomorrow saying that he's not getting the support from the rakyat. His wife, Datin Seri Wan Azizah won with a majority of 13,000 last March and by right, he should do better than that.

It was supposed to be difficult for Anwar Ibrahim since the by-election is not about Anwar versus Arif, it's all about Anwar versus all government machineries. It would be a miracle if Anwar could even touch the 10,000 majority margin.

And yes, miracle DID NOT happen..

Anwar won by a majority of more than 15,000. Miracle didn't happen, he won because the people of Permatang Pauh have faith him. He won because his ideologies is well accepted by the malays, the chinese and the indians. Looking at thee result, it is fair to say that he won because the rakyat wants him to go to Putrajaya and be the next prime minister.

Thinking about the election, I realized...

The election in Permatang Pauh proves that the rakyat don't believe the sodomy allogation. It's just a plot to assisinate Anwar from the political scene.

The election in Permatang Pauh proves that the rakyat don't give a shit about Saiful Bukhari's sumpah laknat. It's just a tactic to discredit Anwar a day before the nomination.

The election in Permatang Pauh proves that the rakyat don't believe that Anwar is the agent of chinese. They see Anwar as the agent for the malays, chinese and Indians.

The election in Permatang Pauh proves that the rakyat don't believe that Anwar works for the Jews. Anwar will not sell this country to the US. They know that Anwar is an obidient Muslim and a true Malaysian.

The election in Permatang Pauh proves that the rakyat don't believe that Anwar wants to build a US airbase in Sabah. They know Khairy talked rubbish the other day.

The election in Permatang Pauh proves that the rakyat don't believe that Anwar awarded 15 bumiputra cronies with projects worth 15 billion. They want Ezam to expose names, not just wild accusations.

The election in Permatang Pauh proves that the rakyat don't believe that Anwar keeps the 6 boxes of corruption files. The rakyat wants to know why it took so long for Ezam to expose it.

Importantly, The election in Permatang Pauh proves that the rakyat just don't believe what Barisan Nasional (BN) has to offer.

and finally,

The election in Permatang Pauh proves that the rakyat wants September 16 to happen.

I rest my case...

Official EC: Anwar Ibrahim 31,195 votes Arif Shah Arif Omar 15,524. Mojority of 15,671
Final official EC tally 9.50pm - Anwar got 31,195 votes, Arif Shah, 15,524, Hanafi, 92. Anwar won with a majority of 15,671.

Dato Seri Anwar
Ibrahim won with a bigger majority even though the number of turnout is only somewhere around 65%! My take, the turnout is lower than before since the by-election is held on a working day. Usually by-elections will take place on Saturdays or Sundays.

Congratulations DSAI! And thank you to the rakyat of Permatang Pauh for helping the rakyat conveying the message to Pak Lah again! The first was last March when Pakatan Rakat won 5 States and denied 2/3 majority.

Lucky Permatang Pauh!

Since the nomination day, the people of Permatang Pauh have already reaped the benefit of having a by-election, with the federal government leading by a mile in terms of rewards and projects. The BN government has pumped in a minimum total of RM6.52 million for Permatang Pauh.
  1. DPM Najib pledged RM300,000 pledge for a community development project in Seberang Jaya.
  2. The deputy education minister Wee Ka Siong announced a RM1 million allocation for five Chinese primary schools in.
  3. Pak Lah pledged RM500,000 allocation for a government clinic at Seberang Jaya.
  4. Wee Ka Siong gave another RM200,00 to a primary school in Sungai Lembu to expand their hall.
  5. Najib Abdul Razak announced another RM500,000 to build a covered basketball court in the same place.
  6. The following day, Najib announced RM1.82 million allocation for mosques and suraus in Seberang Jaya.
  7. Najib gave another RM800,00 to build a three-storey sports complex here.
  8. Najib announced an allocation of RM1.4 million for the Penanti Mosque and Surau.
  9. Najib announced the federal approved licences for Indians to delve into the scrap metal business.
  10. Najib said the federal government will rebuild three Tamil schools and three Hindu temples in the constituency
After talking those benefits with arms wide open, the voted for Anwar Ibrahim. Hehe. Wise people!

Khairy Jamaluddin: The day when he talked rubbish!
It's really fun to see what UMNO leaders are capable of saying to win votes in Permatang Pauh. They're saying anything possible just to make sure Anwar Ibrahim doesn't make it to the parliament. Betul atau tidak, different story..

I'm not gonna write about what those leaders said, I'm just gonna comment on what Khairy Jamaluddin said. All these while, I really think that he's somehow smart. Honest. But what he said in Permatang Pauh, shocking!

I quote from Malaysiakini's website.

Khairy started his speach by saying that BN was on a mission to "bury" Anwar's political career in Permatang Pauh to "save" the country from the PKR supremo.

Let's focus on the word "save". I mentioned in my previous post, if Anwar Ibrahim wins the by-election, he will only be elected as a member of parliament (MP). Susah sangat ke nak paham.. The most he'll be is the chief opposition. He will definitely not be the prime minister (yet!). He can only the prime minister only if he has the support of another 30 MPs. I think KJ knew more about the 16 September take-over and is feeling the heat of it? Do you know anything we don't know KJ? Tell us lah. Is it true that many Sabah and Sarawak MP are jumping ship? If not, why worry about the country's safety? After all, many BN leaders said Anwar was talking bullshit apa...

Khairy placed his Umno Youth deputy chief post as his bet that should Anwar successfully take over the federal power on Sept 16 and become the prime minister, he will quit his Umno post.

I'm seriously not surprised when he said that. Of course he's gonna relinquish his post as the UMNO Youth deputy chief post. If Anwar successfully take-over the government, there's no point for KJ to be in UMNO youth anymore. By then, the wing will no longer be relevant, the party as well. He might as well stand as an independent parliamentry member and try to stay relevant to the people of Rembau.

"The first thing that he will do if he comes into power is not lowering fuel prices but to sign the Free Trade Agreement deal with the US," he claimed, adding that Anwar was also allegedly agreeable to a US deal to operate an airbase in the country"

This is the part when he started talking rubbish. As far as I'm concerned, the person who has been discussing the free trade deal with the US was UMNO's wanita wing leader, Datuk Seri Rafidah Aziz when she was the incharged of the ministry of international trade and industry. And Rafidah Aziz represented the UMNO government. Anwar Ibrahim has nothing to do it. It was your UMNO minister who has been dealing with the US all these while. And now KJ is blaming DSAI? Funny...

When KJ mentioned that Anwar is agreeable for US to operate an airbase in the country, I would love for KJ to show some proof whatsoever. Saying things are easy. I can say that you had an affair with Maya Karin, but I won't since i've no evidence to back me up. KJ, You can mislead those bengong UMNO members from kampungs in Permatang Pauh, but not us the educated malays. We need more than just hearsays. You have to make us believe.

I see it differently...
Let me start by saying this, I don't consume alcohol but...

I'm so against Jabatan Agama Islam Selangor (JAIS) raiding a pub at a hotel in Shah Alam. According to the Star, some 100 patrons were issued summonses during the operation. JAIS spokesperson said the people involved were slapped with summonses as the department believed they had been consuming alcohol.

Don't get me wrong. What those muslim patrons did was wrong, I'm not gonna argue with that and I believe JAIS acted within their scope of enforcement. But I also believe that religious councils should do something else more useful than raiding clubs and hotels. There are other more important problems that can be tackled by them, especially those which gives bad impression to the religion.

I'll give few examples...

Mat rempit is a menace. Most of the them are our malay muslims, you don't have to be be a rocket scientist to notice that. These people are dangerous to the society. They use the roads as a racing circuit, thus endangering others, muslims and non-muslims. I see this phenomena is much more critical compared to others. Religious councils should really look into tackling this. At least, I see it this way, people who consume alcohol in private places bring less risk compared to mat rempits racing on the streets, right?

How about drug addicts? Drugs are a bigger problem than those malays who work in a pub. As much as I'm embarrassed to say this, majority of the drug addicts in the country are malays. The councils should work together more seriously with other government departments such as PEMADAM and pusat serentis to educate these people. Seriously, these druggies are the ones who committed different types of crime just to get some extra money to satisfy their addictions.

The number of people leaving Islam to convert to other religions are on the rise. Not alarming but there are cases. Even the bar council held a open dialog about it. I really think this happens when religious councils are not doing enough to handle it. Instead of stopping others from converting, they're more interested in knocking hotel doors. They got their priorities wrong. Delegate more people to tackle this convert problem. Educate them, council them, dakwah.

Think about it, when religious council are only interested in raiding clubs and hotels, they are giving bad impression to Islam, don't you think so? Islam as I know, is not about invading other people's privacy. Islam is Ad-din - a way of life. Religious council should do more to promote that, let others see the beauty of Islam. Imagine what was in the mind of non-muslims when this things happened. They can't see the beauty of Islam. It's sad isn't it? Do something...

Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim vs UMNO: My opinion
Once a month, I'll head to this malay barber shop in Kampung X to get a haircut. I go there not because he's a malay, I go to him because he's a small kampung businessman. I feel it's my responsibility to help people like him.

I really have no problem with him being a hardcore UMNO member. After all, it's within his right to support anybody he wishes. I have been listening to him promoting UMNO every visit without fail.

My visit today was quite interesting. When I entered his shop, he was busy reading the newspaper and when he saw me, he mentioned that he feels so sick with Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim for suggesting that UiTM should start accepting non-bumiputra into their enrollment.

Unfortunately for him, I was in my educating mood.

I replied to him by saying that I totally agree with him since I didn't wanna spoil his mood - my hair was on the line. But I added by saying Khalid Ibrahim was just giving a suggestion. He's in no position to influence Mara to amend its UitM's Act year 2000 which clearly states that the institution is established for the malays and bumiputra from Sabah & Sarawak.

A suggestion is meaningless if it's not implemented. It's fair to say that Khalid was being treated unfairly by the UMNO-controlled media. Those media had to play the racial tune since the Permatang Pauh by election is just around the corner.

I continued explaning saying what UMNO did is worst. Khalid suggested but UMNO implemented. You see, UiTM is not the only institution under MARA. Don't forget MRSM. If UMNO is really into protecting the bumiputra rights using MARA, why did they allow non-bumiputras into MRSMs? Under Tun Mahathir's leadership, he made this posibble. His excuse, the 10% intake is good for inter-race relationship. Even the MRSM Alumni, under Dato Mukhriz Mahathir (Now Jerlun MP) also supported the move.

As far as I can remember, no UMNO ministers retaliated with the idea!

It was the same with the university matriculation system. UMNO supported the idea of accepting non-bumiputra students into the program. Ketua Pemuda UMNO Dato Hishamuddin Tun Hussein said that he see the 10% non-bumiputra intake into the matriculation program will not affect malay positions. It will only create healthy competition. The move will only produce malays with calibre".

As far as I can remember, no UMNO ministers retaliated with the idea!

He couldn't answer any of my arguments I threw to his face. I ended my argument by saying that UMNO are hypocrites for condemning Khalid. I guess it's true lah what orang-orang tua always say, mengata dulang paku yang serpih, Mengata orang UMNO yang lebih...

Datuk Sharizat Abdul Jalil: Jihad in Permatang Pauh?
According to a report in The Star, Datuk Shahrizat Abdul Jalil declared its campaign in the Permatang Pauh by-election as jihad or a Holy war. She said the Wanita UMNO movement would act as a bastion to stop an ambitious individual from achieving 'his' dream and personal glory.

My take, that 'he' she was talking about is no other than Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Who else can it be?

My, my. What's happening to this Datuk Sharizat? Not only she made a fool of herself by declaring a holy war, she indirectly admitted that UMNO is desperate. She said if the rakyat allow him to lead the country, he would lead us to destruction.

I maybe not as good as she is in politics, but I thought if Anwar Ibrahim wins in the by-election this 26th August, he'll only be elected as a member of parliament (MP) for the Permatang Pauh seat, not the prime minister. What's with the talk about 'him' leading the country?

I guess she knows that Anwar is serious in taking over the country come 16 September. She's worried for herself and UMNO lah. But if I'm not mistaken, Pak Lah & others consistently rubbishes the talk about MPs jumping ship? Why is she contradicting her own president? Do you know something we don't Datuk? Tell us please..

Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim
The demonstration by 3,000 UiTM students was in the TV3 news. It will be the headline in every major newspapers tomorrow. Those students disagreed with the suggestion by the Selangor MB Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim that UiTM should start accepting the non-bumiputra students into their enrollment.

I'm not really surprised with the extra media coverage about the issue, especially from TV3 and Utusan Malaysia. And yeah, Tan Sri Khalid took their bait. Now those Umno-conrolled media has a issue to play for the coming by-election. They will use it to create hatred towards the Pakatan Rakyat, especially PKR and Anwar Ibrahim. politics!

Racial issue like this is just what UMNO needs. It will difinitely garner some extra support to the BN coalition since the support to Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim is at the peak right now. Playing racial are their speciality, especially convincing the fence sitters.

Let's get back to the issue. If you were to ask me whether I agree or disagree with idea of accepting non-bumis into UiTM, I'm neutral. On one hand, as a Malaysian, I believe that the move is good and a step forward in building bangsa Malaysia. It will definitely trigger better racial harmony and understanding between the different races in the country.

On the other hand, as a malay malaysian, I believe that the move is unnecessary for now. The timing is just probably not right, not now. Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim should have waited a little while. Wait for the political climate to be stable first, probably couple of months after Anwar Ibrahim takes over the position as the prime minister. By then, hopefully the new prime minister can take necessary steps to abolish racial based politics, as the ones being championed by BN component parties for the last 50 years.

For sure, this issue will be played again and again by UMNO. They'll only stop once the election is over. By then, UMNO will stop talking about this issue since Tan Sri Khalid was just giving a suggestion, he won't be able to implement it. After all, as I see it, UiTM is definitely not under his jurisdiction, it will always be under Mara. His say will not carry much weight.
